About Laka: How the Korean Makeup Range Is Put Together

Laka is a Korean cosmetics label, and most of what is collected here goes on the mouth: watery tints in small tubes, glow and matte bullets, twist-up pencils, gloss oils, tinted balms and a few prep and removal steps. A shorter list covers cheeks, eyes and brows, and five skincare items built around PDRN make up the rest.

The products suit someone who wears lip color most days and changes finish as often as shade, moving from a glassy tint on one day to a matte bullet with a brown outline on the next. They suit less well anyone after full-coverage base makeup or lash mascara, since neither appears in the collection. Nearly every piece is sold singly, so a kit can grow one line at a time.

What the Laka Range Is Made Of

Lip color comes in four physical formats. Liquid tints sit in tubes of 0.15 fl oz for the Fruity Glam Tint, 3.8g for the Maxi Glayer Tint and 4.5g for the Popping Balloon stain. Bullets weigh 3.7g in the Bonding Glow and Devil Lip lines and 4g in Bulky Matte. Liner pencils hold 0.02 oz, and the dual-ended Twin Lip pen carries 0.31 fl oz split across its two ends.

Care and finishing products run a little larger. The Fruity Lip Glotioner and the peel-off mask are 0.33 fl oz each, the vegan balm 3.9g, the Spicy Lip Plumper 0.14 fl oz and the Washful remover 10ml. Face items stay compact, from a 0.09 oz blush and a 2.8g highlighter to a 4.8g corrector palette, a 0.24 oz eyeshadow and an 8g brow gel. Skincare spans a 30ml serum, cleansers of 120ml and 145ml, a 1.69 fl oz cream and a 150ml toner.

Three items also come in a smaller 1.9g format: a five-tint Soft Nude set, a two-tint Spring Tone duo and a single Jelling Nude Gloss in #312 Coolring. Each lets a texture be worn for a while before a full tube joins the bag.

Reading Shade Numbers, Names and Wear Claims

Shade numbers do more sorting than they first appear to. In the lip lines the hundreds digit usually marks the line: 100s for Fruity Glam Tint, 200s for Bonding Glow, 300s for Jelling Nude Gloss, 400s for the Bulky Matte sticks packed in the liner combos, 600s for Maxi Glayer, 700s for the Glotioner, 800s for Devil Lip and 900s for Twin Lip and the Popping Balloon stain. Face products reuse the same ranges, so #705 is a blush and #910 an eyeshadow; reading the product name next to the number avoids a mix-up.

Wear figures are the maker's own and belong in that context. The Bonding Glow bullets carry 24HR in their name, the Bulky Matte sticks in the combos are billed at 24-hour color, and Twin Lip and the Pixi brow gel are put at up to 12 hours. Food, drink and blotting cut into any lip color's day, so treat the numbers as a way to rank lines against each other rather than as a schedule.

Size units shift between formats. Liquids are measured in fluid ounces and solids in grams, which is why a 0.15 fl oz tint and a 3.7g bullet cannot be compared directly. Within one format the figures line up: Bonding Glow and Devil Lip bullets weigh the same, and a full Glotioner tube matches the 10ml Glotioners packed in the Plush Lip Prep Trio.

Who Laka Suits and Who Should Look Elsewhere

The collection works well for someone who likes sheer, glossy color built up in layers, or who wants an outline and a fill chosen together. The pencil line runs to 15 shades, eight of them gathered here across pinks, browns, a burgundy and a coral red, and two combos pair a pencil with a matte stick in a related tone. Glassy K-beauty looks are well served, since the tints and glow bullets favor light textures over waxy ones.

Several products carry real caveats. The Spicy Lip Plumper is maximum strength, with capsicum extract that builds heat over a few minutes, and it is no place to start with plumpers. The Popping Balloon stain feels minty and the prep mask cools with menthol, sensations some people dislike on the lips. Devil Lip #808 Fuzz has a glossy edge that rules it out for anyone wanting flat matte, and the brow gel shapes and holds rather than tinting for good.

The Skin Active Serum combines retinol and glutathione, so it calls for the usual care with active ingredients. If you know certain ingredients bother you, go through the ingredients in full before buying and patch test a small area first; stop using it if irritation occurs.

What the Collection Does Not Cover

There is no foundation, lash mascara or fragrance here, and no brushes or tools. Face makeup is limited to a blush, a highlighter, a corrector palette, a single eyeshadow and a brow gel, so anyone building a full face from one label will need other products for base and lashes.

The skincare is a partial routine. Numbered steps cover the toner (1), serum (3) and cream (4), and the serum is meant to follow an Active Booster that sits outside this collection. The two cleansers come before the toner but carry no step number.

Shade depth is uneven from line to line. Twin Lip appears here in two shades, both cool, the Dream Beam highlighter in one of its three, and Bulky Matte as a single stick plus the two combo sticks. Fruity Glam Tint, by contrast, is a large line with dozens of shades by Laka's own counts, and the four single tubes here only sample it.
